With sapphires, color leads. Like a good dance partner.

A lighter, more vibrant stone will often be more valuable (and therefore more expensive) than a darker one — even if the darker stone is larger. When a sapphire gets too dark, it can lose that light-filled quality that makes it feel alive.

But — worth saying — there's something about a deeper, moodier stone that we love. A rich, inky sapphire with presence can feel a little more grounded, a little more dramatic.

Sometimes size does matter. It just depends on what you're drawn to.

How Clarity Affects Sapphire Price

Clarity isn't always obvious at first glance, but it changes how a stone behaves.

Fewer inclusions = more light return = more sparkle, more dimension, more presence. And yes — cleaner stones typically command higher prices.

But here's where we might differ slightly from tradition: we don't believe "perfect" is always the goal. A stone with unique inclusions can catch your eye a little closer in. They add character, make each stone one of a kind, and remind you this wasn't made in a lab to be identical to the next.

So inclusions do affect price — a cleaner stone will generally cost more. But whether a stone with inclusions is better for you? That's a different question, and one only you can answer.

We'll say it: we love a big sapphire.

Size can absolutely add presence, and there are moments where more is more. A larger stone has a certain confidence to it — and we're here for it.

But a bigger sapphire that's darker or more included can be less rare than a smaller, cleaner, uniquely colored one. So yes — size matters. Just not always in the way you'd expect.
